Curriculum Intent
To provide a curriculum that the students will enjoy learning and develop a desire to further their knowledge and understanding.
For students to develop and build on knowledge and understanding as they move through the school to allow all to make progress and to provide opportunities for students to practise what they know through a variety of teaching strategies to deepen their understanding.
To give students the confidence that the literacy skills, knowledge and understanding that they will have acquired during the course of their study are comparable to those of the highest performing jurisdictions in the world, enriching their cultural awareness through the study of literary heritage texts.
To ensure that students read a wide range of classic literature fluently and with good understanding, and are able to make connections across their reading.
To ensure that students are able to read in depth, critically and evaluatively, so that they are able to discuss and explain their understanding and ideas and to encourage students to develop the habit of reading widely and often.
To ensure that students can write effectively and coherently using Standard English appropriately and that they can use grammar correctly, punctuate and spell accurately.
To enable and allow students to apply a wide vocabulary alongside knowledge and understanding of grammatical terminology and linguistic conventions for reading, writing and spoken language.
To provide students with the opportunity to listen to and understand spoken language and use spoken Standard English effectively.
