Curriculum Intent

The Performing Arts Department strive to lead creative, memorable and inspiring lessons in Drama and Music.

We encourage students to work hard in order to reach their full potential and achieve their capabilities.

For students to develop and build on their practical skills and understanding as they move through the school to allow all to make progress.

We aim to instil within every student a confidence, self-discipline and the ability to communicate effectively with others, becoming fully rounded, creative and responsible young adults.

We aim to provide a broad yet rigorous music experience for all pupils.

Core music provides pupils with the knowledge and skills to understand the intricacies of music in many styles, and aims to give pupils a solid grounding in musicianship, singing, composition and critical awareness.

Core drama provides students with the knowledge and skills to understand the range of different dramatic styles, techniques and ways to build confidence in a range of different performance opportunities.

Extra curricular music and drama is a key part of the curriculum offer from KS3 through to KS5. Through the various session on offer, pupils are able to develop their leadership; and their moral, social and cultural understanding, through effective teamwork.
