Who are they?
St Oswald's provides specialist care for local adults, young people and children.
Situated in Gosforth, it has a purpose-built facility that offers a range of flexible services to North East families.
Within the adult service, St Oswald's offers a day hospice, lymphoedema service, an inpatient unit, complementary therapy service, consultant outpatient clinic and an outreach service.
Adults with life limiting conditions are referred to St Oswald's for pain and symptom management and end of life care. St Oswald's cares for patients with cancer, as well as those with end stage neurological, cardiac and respiratory conditions.
Within the Children's Service, St Oswald's offers specialist short breaks to children and young people with life limiting conditions and their families. Children from 0 - 18 can benefit from care at St Oswald's.
St Oswald's has also developed a service for young adults, aged 18-25, to enable St Oswald's to continue to support children, who are reaching adulthood.
How does it work?
We value the close links we have with our local community and since 2007 we have adopted a whole school charity to fundraise for in the course of the academic year. Each year we set ourselves a challenging £10,000 target and since 2007 we have raised over £60,000.
This year we have decided to support St Oswald's Hospice and we are aiming to beat the amount raised last year.
How will we do it?
We have a non-uniform charity day at the end of each half term where students make a £1 contribution to come into school in their own clothes. On these days we have a range of activities designed to increase the total contributed to the school appeal.
In the Autumn term we have a whole school Game Show Night where students and parents can play game shows such as Family Fortunes and others for real on stage with the chance to win excellent prizes. Students are regularly encouraged to come up with their own ideas and any way to raise funds will be considered.
Past activities have included bake sales, car washes, garden equipment sales, raffles, football competitions and many, many more.
