This Year's Charity

Hearing Dogs for Deaf People

Who are they?

What is Hearing Dogs For Deaf People?

Hearing Dogs for Deaf People is a national charity and the only centre of excellence in the UK for training dogs to alert deaf people to important sounds and danger signals in the home, work place and public buildings.

How do they help?

A hearing dog changes a deaf person's life on many levels. Deafness can be a very isolating and lonely disability; a hearing dog can offer increased independence, greater confidence, companionship and a feeling of security.
The aim is to train a hearing dog to be alert to sounds which are specific to the requirements of a deaf person.

What will the money we raise go towards?

£3,100 - Breeding and sourcing a puppy
£4,700 - Puppy socialising
£9,900 - Hearing dog partnership training
£10,800 - Lifetime partnership support
£12,400 - Hearing dog soundwork training

How does it work?

We value the close links we have with our local community and since 2007 we have adopted a whole school charity to fundraise for in the course of the academic year.  Each year we set ourselves a challenging £10,000 target and since 2007 we have raised over £50,000.
This year we have decided to support Hearing Dogs For Deaf People and we are aiming to beat the amount raised last year.
To see what we have achieved in previous years, take a look at our other appeals in the menu to your left.

How will we do it?

We have a non-uniform charity day at the end of each half term where students make a £1 contribution to come into school in their own clothes. On these days we have a range of activities designed to increase the total contributed to the school appeal.
In the Autumn term we have a whole school  Game Show Night where students and parents can play game shows such as Family Fortunes and others for real on stage with the chance to win excellent prizes.  Students are regularly encouraged to come up with their own ideas and any way to raise funds will be considered.
Past activities have included bake sales, car washes, garden equipment sales, raffles, football competitions and many, many more. This year we also had  members of staff participating in the Great North Run.
