Tuesday 21st February 2012, anticipated for weeks, finally arrived and the F1 in Schools organisers descended upon Newcastle University for the annual event.
Our team of five "Volitorial" were in great spirits and determined to present themselves the best they could. The event saw judges from university and industry and there were 900 points to be won. This was divided into 3 main areas: racing, engineering and quality, and verbal presentation.
The team impressed the judges in all areas, particularly in their pit display and portfolio. Out of 9 schools the team car came in 4th fastest. The lads interacted with other teams supportively and the atmosphere on the day was very positive. Team Volitorial were presented as the North East champions in the Bloodhound Class and invited to attend the National event at Birmingham NEC on March 16th and 17th. It was a splendid achievement and fully deserved.
George Stephenson High School is the only North Tyneside school to compete in this competition and it is a fantastic result for the students, school and local area to win two years running. Very well done!
