George Stephenson High Students Enter A New Dimension! - Dimension Day Report..

Students @ Killingworth Shopping Centre

Year 7 students at George Stephenson High School took a bold step into the unknown by creating and leading an innovative community event, the school’s Dimensions Day on Friday 19th June.

The event was the culmination of a major school project aimed at raising the school’s profile in the community and developing sustainable links with its partners.

Students at George Stephenson High School worked in school on two previous Dimensions Days where they created promotional and advertising material using a range of cutting edge multi-media packages to develop the story of the school through their own experiences. Promotional DVDs, radio broadcasts, posters, leaflets and flyers were all produced by the students and shared with the community as part of the day.

The day saw students visit a range of local community venues to spread the message.  This included planning, preparing and leading interactive workshops with younger students in Amberley, Westmoor, Bailey Green, Moor Edge, Shiremoor, Backworth Park and Holystone Primary Schools.

They also presented their work in the Killingworth White Swan Centre and the Killingworth Shopping Centre, where they generated a huge amount of positive interest from members of the public. It was a fantastic opportunity the students in Year 7 to really show off the pride they have in their school and the valuable contribution George Stephenson High School can and does provide for the Killingworth area.

Our school has so many success stories to share and a true community spirit we should be proud of. We see the school as a focal point in the local community and hope that the friendships forged on Dimensions Day will be the foundation for ongoing community links in the future.
